It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It really is. I LOVE the Christmas season. Family gatherings, buying presents for people, Christmas music and decorations, hot cocoa, and the list goes on!
Because so much happens in this season, we tend to do things in a hurry over the holidays. We over plan, we eat more, we buy more and when we do, we end up neglecting ourselves.
Here are 5 ways to help navigate the holiday season and make it a reason to celebrate instead of cause stress:
Just because it’s the holiday season, doesn’t mean your health needs to be pushed aside. You will be surprised how much more energy you will have for all the holiday festivities when you keep your mind and body fit. Take a spin class, or go to a yoga class to unwind. Whatever it is, get your body moving!

Make your list early and with intention
I message my family in November to ask them what they would like for Christmas. My brother, sister and I agreed that we do not need to get each other presents. This saves us the stress of time and money. We just want to spend the day together and with people we love.

Give yourself the gift of self-care
Don’t forget to take care of yourself this holiday season. It’s okay to say ‘no’ to that holiday party you didn’t really want to go to in the first place. It’s ok to leave a holiday party early, or indulge in a couple glasses of red wine and enjoy the night! The important thing is to listen to your body.
Wake up 20 minutes earlier and take time to get ready before your busy days. I know that when I have time to do my hair and put on some makeup before the day begins, I am a more productive person.

One of the best ways to celebrate the holiday season is to give back! Volunteer at your local shelter, or donate some toys to the salvation army. Even something as small as buying a stranger a coffee in the drive-thru can put a smile on someone’s face. Pay it forward this holiday season!
The holidays can be a tough time for a lot of people. Take the time to be present with everyone around you. Write down five things a day that you are grateful for. Sounds weird, but it works! I do it. Maybe you are thankful for your home, your dog, your friends, your job, your smile, your personality. Whatever you think of, write five things down daily.
